Thanksgiving and Beyond

Amazingly enough, I didn't take a single picture at Thanksgiving this year.  That has to be a record for me, since I'm always grabbing the camera to take pictures and trying to record everything. (Especially if any grandkids are around!)  This year Thanksgiving weekend was like a roller coaster.  Mom came over on the bus Tuesday afternoon and helped make pies for Thanksgiving on Wed.  There were only 3 of us for dinner on Thanksgiving, but the next day, Tim, Debbie and Meera came over, so there were 6 of us for dinner that night.  Saturday, Kari's family and Todd's family came to have lunch with us, so our numbers expanded to 13!  By dinner time we were back down to 6, then Sunday we went farther down in numbers, so it was just the 2 of us again.  We had a lot of fun over the weekend, playing a game of "Bunko" in the afternoon on Saturday, where Saben had the most wins AND the most "bunko's" of everyone.  We also put together several puzzles, watched a bunch of movies, and ate until we dropped!  And...I accomplished my big goal of the weekend every year of helping my mom get most of her Christmas shopping done and we did it all in one day, Friday, although we had to go to 8 different stores to do it!

 When I visited Saben and Annika on Wednesday, I asked them to make me a Christmas picture to put on my refrigerator.  This is Annika's, if you click on it, you'll see lots of green things sticking out from the tree.  When I asked her what they were, she said they were the tree branches!  Also, the black circle on the right hand side of the tree is NOT a turkey with it's feet in the air, like Kari & Ken both thought.  It's a reindeer ornament on the tree!

 Saben drew Santa's palace, and put hundreds of tiny dots on it, which are Christmas lights decorating the palace.  They both did an awesome job on their pictures, so good, in fact, that Kari didn't want to let me have them!  She took a picture of both of the pictures, so I did get to hang them on my refrigerator.

Preparing for Winter

 Saturday was a day to get some things done before winter gets here.  One of the things we did, was pull up the carrots we had grown, cut the tops off them, then put them on some newspaper.  These carrots were going to be re-buried.

 A few of the smaller carrots were brought into the house and put into the refrigerator for immediate use.

 The larger group of carrots, in the first picture, were not only laid on newspaper, but they were covered with another layer of paper.

 Then, they were covered with dirt.

Ken finished covering the carrots up, now when we need to get some carrots throughout the winter, we'll go uncover some and bring them in the house.  This was my Dad's method of preserving carrots through the winter and works very well!  The carrots, really stay nice this way!

Fall Things in Our Yard

 Some pictures of some small berry looking things with rain on them.  Ken said he thought they were crab apples, but I've never seen such small crab apples, so I'm not sure what they are.  It's a small tree in a pot, so maybe they are miniature crab apples, anyway, I liked seeing them with the rain dripping from the end of the crab apple.
