Drive Through Texas

Most of the drive through Texas was pretty boring, flat and brown most of the way with an occasional hill!  However, when we got to Amarillo (where we stopped for the night) we went out and visited "Cadillac Ranch".  "Cadillac Ranch" is where 10 cadillacs were put half-way into the ground, nose first!
A closer view of the cadillacs.
One of the traditions is to bring a can of spray paint and contribute to decorating the cars.
We didn't know about the tradition, but while we were standing around looking at the cars, a couple came up to us and handed us 3 cans of spray paint, so we could make a contribution!  They said someone had given the cans to them and that we should pass them on when we were done with them.
I've never spray painted "graffiti" on any thing before.  I didn't know what to paint and only one thing came to mind, so that's what I did.  (See the picture 3 pictures down to see what I painted.
Ken liked the typical cadillac fins on this car.
We handed off the paint spray cans to a couple of guys, who also took our picture.
This is what I sprayed on a car.  It's hard to read the part in the shade, but it just says, KV + BV.
This is a part underneath the car.
A wheel rim on a car.  It's hard telling how many coats of paint are on these cars.
The view of the back of the cars.
We had dinner at this place, but in spite of all the advertisements we saw along the road for the place, the food wasn't that good.
Long horns on the front of a limo at the restaurant.  I don't know why someone would take a limo to a place like that restaurant.
The next day on the way to Colorado Springs, we went by this volcano.  There's a road to the top, so we drove up there and there was a great view from the top.  Unfortunately, after I took the picture below, my camera stopped working, so I got no pictures from the top.
A storm had gone through Colorado the day before we got there, so even though it was clear and sunny when we were there, snow was on the ground in places and especially on the mountains we drove by as we continued north to Colorado Springs.

Helping Move Mom V.

Ken and I went to Texas to help his mom move out of her house last week.  She had already gone through a lot of things.  One of the last things to be done was the kitchen area, which I helped her work on.
Ken and I were able to take a break and take a walk on a trail close to her house one afternoon.  We saw some different birds than we have around here.
There was also a small dam by the trail.
The picture of the cardinal is blurry, but it's the best one that I was able to get.
Last Monday, the packers arrived to pack the things that were going to be moved to Colorado.  Ken's Mom gave them instructions about what to pack and what to leave unpacked.  (She left a lot of things behind and someone is going to hold an estate sale for her.)  The packers were so efficient that they had her clothes closet and coat closet packed before she got some items out that she wanted to take with us in the car.
 Getting the packing done.
Time to relax while the packers worked around us.
Tuesday morning, the moving van arrived.  It was huge!
Loading up the van took a lot less time than we expected.  They were done and ready to hit the road by 1pm.
Last picture in front of her house.
We drove from Georgetown to Wendy's house in Ovilla, Texas (a 2 1/2 hour trip) after the moving van left.  We spent the night there before heading out the next morning for the trip to Colorado.  Wendy's daughter, Tiffany and her boyfriend, Joe, joined us for dinner that night also.

Mom's Surgery

I'm way behind on my blogging, but I think everyone knows the reasons why I'm so far behind!  I have made 2 trips to Wenatchee and a trip to Texas/Colorado since Mar. 4th!  Mom had open heart surgery on Mar. 4th, so I was there for that, then came home for a few days before going back to Wenatchee for a few more days on Mar. 14th, which was Pi day and after visiting Mom in the hospital, we were invited to have pie with Amy's family.  Lara tried to make a pie, but it didn't turn out, so they bought a couple of pies.
Mom was supposed to hold this heart pillow when she needed to get up out of bed or out of a chair.  Holding on to the pillow keeps her from using her arms to get up, which is a no, no right now.  She was getting tired of being in the hospital when I was there a week and a half ago and she still has several more days before she'll be released, but they're making sure that she'll be able to manage being on her own when she gets out and that's taking longer than expected.
Mom's cat, Pepper, has been missing her, I found her sleeping on the pillow on Mom's bed once and here, she's curled up in the chair Mom usually sits in.

Baby Lizzy

Last Tuesday I went to Wenatchee to be with my Mom when she had open heart surgery on Wed.  My niece Darcy came to Mom's for dinner along with her 2 girls on Tuesday night.  GG (the name that Darcy's older daughter calls my Mom) got to feed Lizzy for awhile.
Baby Lizzy is 5 weeks old and this was the first time that I had seen her.
Darcy feeding Lizzy.  I spent quite a bit of time holding her, trying to keep her awake so she could eat and possibly not be awake during the night, which has been her pattern.
Sadie played quietly all the time they were there and enjoyed lifting the 2 pound weights.
